ARLIE RAY HOWELL:
Trust Makes a Difference

by Debbie Brokaw

Arlie Ray Howell’s trust in the doctors at George Regional Health System seemed to deter any anxiety when he was told that he needed peripheral vascular surgery this past spring.
Arlie Ray’s left leg began to hurt after walking some 100 yards or so. In time, the pain became worse, while walking shorter intervals. Arlie Ray finally concluded that he should visit Community Medical Center. Arlie Ray said he really doesn’t have a specific doctor. “I just ask which one I might see today?” It is obvious that Arlie Ray trusts all the doctors at George Regional. This visit, Arlie Ray was seen by Dr. O’Hea. Dr. O’Hea advised Arlie Ray to have something done about his peripheral vascular disease.
“This is home to me,” said Arlie Ray. Though a lot of his career was spent in Ohio, Arlie Ray’s preference was to seek medical care at George Regional Health System. Arlie Ray’s surgeon was Dr Godbole, whom he considers “second to none”. Arlie Ray appreciated visits from his good friend, Dr. Dayton Whites, who is now retired. Beth Cochran, R.N, and Larita Hill, R.N. were mentioned as being wonderful caregivers. Also, Arlie said,“my leg doesn’t hurt anymore.”
Arlie Ray said if he had it to do all over again that there is no doubt he would come back to George Regional Hospital. “And,” he said, “I would recommend this hospital to anyone.”

Giving Birth at GRHS
by Debbie Brokaw

George Regional Hospital was not the first to come to mind for George County resident Lindsay Whitaker to have her first child. Today, however, she believes it is the only place. Lindsay, formerly of Quitman, Miss., said “I was not going to use George Regional Hospital, until I talked with Karen Scott who works in surgery.” Karen Scott knows Lindsay from church. Lindsay said, “She asked why I was not using George Regional. I said that I am just a little skeptical, and it’s a small facility. I just didn’t know if it would hold up to my standards. It was my first child. I was about to have Jackson, and I wanted everything to go perfectly.” Lindsay said she and Karen talked a little bit more, and Lindsay was assured there is no one to take better care of her and her baby than the doctors here at George Regional. Karen told her, as far as gynecologists, prenatal check ups, etc. it is all right here in Lucedale; just try it.
After discussing the issue with family, Lindsay decided to go with George Regional Hospital. “I loved the convenience of it, but I also loved how they did not rush me in and out,” said Lindsay. “They knew my name and they knew my mother, because she had worked there. It just felt like family to me.”
